In the United States, people can subscribe to certain pressure groups with presence in Washington. We call them lobbies. The wealthy and powerful always have their lobbies, but the People can subscribe to an ecological group, a moralistic group, a pro or anti taxing group, --whatever. I don't know what you have in your country, but that is an alternative, limited in scope that it may be, whatever your overriding concerns are.
